JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON!!!
In my last article, I talked about how Qwest has followed the lead of the IXCs and has begun a program to raise their Directory Assistance tariff rates to $1.25 per call. Well, hold on to your wallet because now some other LECs seem to be following that lead! |
Since my last report, Verizon is now raising its 411 NDA rate to the same $1.25 per call. Why not? If one can get away with it without being noticed, why shouldn’t they all try? And I have recently received reports from customers that both Southwest Bell and BellSouth are raising their 411 NDA rates to $1.10 per call. |
Why do they seem to be focusing on the 411 NDA rates? My guess is that with the proliferation of new area codes across the country, the footprint that makes up a local DA call is getting smaller and smaller. Therefore, instead of battling the PUCs for local 411 tariff increases, squeeze through 411 NDA increases and reduce the area that is covered by the local 411 tariff. Who’ll notice? No Big Deal! |
What I’d like to do is find out from you readers what you pay for Directory Assistance. Take a minute, look at your phone bills and send me what you pay for local 411, NDA and IXC DA charges. I’ll bet with very little effort I could save you some money! |
Email me at [email protected] or call me at 215.793.4880. I look forward to hearing from you. |
